Under the Byzantine Empire’s ancient Greek and Roman cultural belief in Christianity, the faith flourished, and would eventually form a bridge between ancient and modern European civilization. Across the centuries the peoples of Byzantium held steadfast to their deeply religious Christian faith. “New Rome,” as Byzantium was officially christened under Constantine the Great in A.D. 330, guided humanity and remained a shining light through the fifteenth century. Today, unearthed and intact, our collection of Byzantine crosses may once again be worn, as they once were, as testaments to religious faith and conviction.
The silver and gold frames were designed by Pavlos Angelos, exclusively for Nouveau 1910.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies each cross which guarantees the bronze portion of the cross to be from the period and date stated.
Many people connect the name Peter Carl Faberge’ first and foremost, to the famous Imperial Easter Eggs. For the guild of artisans however, his name stands for perfect enamel. both in a technical and artistic sence. Made in 18 carat gold, this line of Art Nouveau Style jewelry is essentially made using the same techniques as the craftsmen of the original Art Nouveau era. All of the processes employed involve the craftsmanship and knowledge of experts in each specialty.
Probably the most distinctive technique that gives each piece its own unique character is the enamelwork. The tones may vary on both the plique à jour and the enamel on gold pieces due to slight density variations in the enamel.
